Sankar Nair

Associate

Sankar is a business lawyer who has developed businesses in the e-commerce space since he was 16 years old. Prior to law school, Sankar founded and continues to operate a unique start-up company offering niche products with sales of over 20,000 units and counting. In his third year of law school, Sankar conceptualized and developed a special effects product during his second year, which was featured in 11 different publications in print and online. He now has over 14 years of experience in business structuring, product manufacturing, supply chain management, asset purchasing, marketing, licensing, and wholesale distribution. He draws from these experiences when providing legal advice, drafting contracts, and negotiating successful outcomes for his clients.

Some of Sankar’s representative work includes:

  • Assisting clients with business acquisitions and sales ranging from $30,000 to over $5M;
  • Drafting strategic distribution agreements for e-commerce companies, suppliers and manufacturers;
  • Advising start-ups with founders’ agreements, shareholders’ agreements, service agreements and employee stock option plans;
  • Assisting artists, musicians, adult entertainers, producers, publishers and record labels with licensing and intellectual property matters;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial leases; and
  • General corporate maintenance, corporate structuring and commercial risk management.

Although Sankar was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, he now calls Victoria home. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria and completed his Articles with Velletta Pedersen Christie. In his free time, Sankar enjoys spending time with family, travelling, managing his e-commerce business, and learning about developments in economics and technology.

  • Sankar’s commitment to community service is as strong as his entrepreneurial drive. He serves as a mentor for the UVic Coast Capital Innovation Centre, guiding early-stage start-ups, and for the UVic Gustavson School of Business, mentoring business students. Sankar also provides guidance to local start-ups as a community mentor through VIATEC. Through these experiences, he also had the privilege of sitting as a judge for the 2024 First Robotics Competition Canadian Pacific Regional and the 2024 RBC Case Competition for UVic business students. Sankar’s dedication to community service also extends to not-for-profit organizations, where he has previously worked with Access Pro-Bono, Pro-Bono Students of Canada, Reconciliation Canada, and the YMCA Plus-One Mentorship program.
