Alison Rhynas

Alison Rhynas is a dedicated and experienced family lawyer and partner at Velletta Pedersen Christie. She is graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria and also holds a 2010 Bachelor of Arts in history from Saint Mary’s University located in her hometown, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alison’s practice is exclusively dedicated to family law and she is passionate about the field.

Alison frequently and successfully represents clients in both Provincial and Supreme Court and regularly negotiates favourable out of court settlements for her clients. Alison is known for her compassionate approach to client representation as she takes the time to understand her clients’ unique needs and concerns and guide them through the legal process with empathy and understanding. She is a strong advocate for alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and collaborative law, but is also prepared to vigorously represent her clients’ interests in court when necessary. With a commitment to providing personalized and effective legal solutions, Alison has established herself as a trusted advisor and advocate for her clients.

Prior to joining Velletta Pedersen Christie in 2019, Alison worked for the Department of Justice in Vancouver and the Legal and Compliance department at GlobalWide Media, an affiliate marketing company in Victoria. While in law school, Alison completed a term with the University of Victoria Law Centre, a free legal clinic that provides a wide variety of legal representation to the community. During each year of law school, she completed projects for Pro Bono Students Canada, an organization that provides free legal support through student projects supervised by local lawyers. Alison also contributed writing and research to BC Mining Law Reform’s set of recommendations for the regulation of the mining industry, A Plan of Action for Change.

In her free time, Alison enjoys boating and adventuring with her spouse and child.

From 2020-2023, Alison served on the board of directors for Wear2Start, a non-profit and registered charity that provides professional clothing directly to self-identified women in need. She also sits on the board of directors for Family Services of Greater Victoria, a non-profit organization that provides a range of legal and counselling services in Victoria.
