Candace Rissley

Candace grew up in Victoria, where she completed her undergraduate degree at UVic. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2022.

During law school, she was an award-winning mooter (mock trial competitor) and a dedicated volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada and Student Legal Assistance, providing free legal representation and support to individuals in need. She also worked as a research assistant for the law faculty, focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Candace began her legal career in criminal defence in Ontario, appearing daily in courts across the province. She developed a particular skill for making Charter challenges on behalf of clients, often leading to the full withdrawal of charges.

In 2024, she returned to Vancouver Island and shifted her focus to family law, driven by a desire to offer more comprehensive support and create a lasting positive impact in her clients’ lives. She worked as parents’ counsel in child protection cases, advocating for families navigating difficult legal situations.

Candace joined Velletta Pedersen Christie in early 2025. She understands that many people seek legal guidance during some of the most challenging times in their lives. She is committed to creating a judgment-free space where clients feel heard while working together to find tailored solutions.

Her approach prioritizes the well-being of families while also providing passionate representation for her clients. Due to her background in criminal law, she can navigate high conflict disputes, that may involve other legal challenges, with grace and aplomb. She is a sharp strategist who uses every tool available and considers every angle when offering advice and analysis.

In her free time, Candace enjoys keeping up with pop culture, crafting, and spending cosy nights in with her French bulldog puppy, Churro, and her partner, Nick.
