Candace Rissley
Associate

Candace grew up in Victoria and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria before earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2022.
During law school, she was an award-winning mooter (mock trial competitor) and an active volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada and Student Legal Assistance, providing free legal representation to those in need. She also worked as a research assistant for the law faculty, focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Candace chose family law because she is driven by a desire to create a lasting positive impact in her clients’ lives. She relishes the opportunity for Courtroom Advocacy just as much as she enjoys engaging in mediated diplomacy. Whether she is drafting written arguments or crafting tailored agreements, the goal is always the best interests of her clients.
She has served as parents’ counsel in child protection cases involving the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). From the first call from a social worker, Candace guides parents and guardians through every step of the process.
Candace joined Velletta Pedersen Christie in early 2025, providing thoughtful, strategic, and empathetic representation throughout Victoria and surrounding communities. She understands that people seek legal guidance during some of the most challenging times in their lives and is committed to offering compassion and clarity. She creates a judgment-free space where clients feel heard while working together to find tailored solutions.
Her approach prioritizes family well-being in a calm, pragmatic manner. Establishing positive client rapport is pivotal to her practice, and she believes engendering mutual trust is foundational to the solicitor-client relationship. She is a sharp strategist, known for her thorough preparation, creative problem-solving, and unwavering advocacy.
She is solely focused on family law, and her current practice covers a wide range, including separation and divorce, parenting arrangements, support claims, protection matters, cohabitation or prenuptial agreements, and the division of family property and debt.
In her free time, Candace enjoys pop culture, crafting, and cozy nights in with her partner and their French bulldog.
