Café Malabar, voted Canada’s 5th best new restaurant by Air Canada enRoute magazine in 2024 and recipient of YAM Magazine’s 2024 Best Restaurant Award, was one of the restaurants affected by a closure of a shared kitchen space in the Victoria Public Market in December 2024. Velletta Pedersen Christie represented Café Malabar with a team led by Sankar Nair closed the purchase of assets from Tug Eatery, including some equipment and a food primary liquor licence and negotiated a new commercial lease agreement for a waterfront location with the landlords, the founders of Tug Eatery. Café Malabar was grateful for their time at the Victoria Public Market and look forward to expanding operations at their new location.
